Yamamotoyama was founded in 1690 in Tokyo. It was a small family-owned company that specialised in green tea and seaweed products. If you visit Tokyo today, you can still find the original Yamamotoyama shop run by the family's descendent who will serve you some of their delicious tea. The success of the company was owed to green tea that they produced in 1835 called gyokoro. In 1947 Yamamotoyama started to produce nori - seaweed - products. The health benefits of green tea and seaweed didn't remain a secret for long and soon enough Yamamotoyama broke into the world market.
