Kikkoman was originally founded in 1917 as Noda Shoyu Co. Ltd. when they started to mass produce their; now world famous soy sauce. They were based in Osaka at their Takasago plant. However, the secret of their soy sauce dates back for centuries before this to the Mogi and Takanashi families who were famous for making soy sauce which won many awards. The ancestors of the families would later create the Noda Shoyu company and ultimately Kikkoman.
